If your priority is:
Racing, Touring or Exploration
then, consider a 14' Fastnet or 12'6 transpac paddle board
If you are one that enjoys speed, performance and traveling long distances in a short amount of time, then a Race/Tour board is the board for you. These boards are designed to be fast, stable and track straight through the water with limited effort. These shapes are not designed for stand up paddle surfing.
If your priority is:
Cruising, Surfing and Yoga,
then consider a 10'6 or 11'6 ko lipe paddle board
All-Around/Surf paddle boards have a wide range of capabilities. These boards are ultra-stable, great for SUP surfing, floating around the harbor with your significant other (or maybe your dog) and for casual cruises. These boards are not built for speed but are designed to be surfed and to float around with ease. These boards are simple to maneuver and are the perfect platform for relaxing SUP yoga sessions on calm mornings. Not looking for speed but for a great recreational board to surf or float around on? For you, a Ko Lipe 10'6 or 11'6 will be perfect.
If your priority is:
surfing or touring,
then consider a 12' lanai paddle board
Surf/Tour hybrid paddle boards are perfect for the individual who is looking to do it all. Do you want similar speed and tracking abilities of a race board but do not want to give up the opportunity to surf? If so, this is the board for you. Surf/Tour boards take the speed and tracking capabilities from a Race/Tour board and the Surfing abilities of the All Around/Surf boards and place it into one. Although the board is not as fast as a race/tour board, it surfs incredibly well and will get you around with great glide and stability.
Choosing Your Paddle: Carbon Fiber is Key!
Owning the right paddle is more important than most think. After all, you and the paddle are the engine to the stand up paddle board. There are many options from aluminum paddles to high tech carbon fiber paddles. We believe your paddling experience should never be restricted and advise strongly against anything but a carbon fiber paddle. Low quality, low cost aluminum or fiberglass paddles restrict your paddling abilities in a huge way as these materials are not as stiff or reactive as carbon fiber. This makes you place a great deal of energy into your stroke only to produce little speed through the water. A carbon fiber paddle displaces the energy to where it matters most. The paddle shaft bends in an appropriate fashion and allows you to go faster more efficiently. We offer fixed and adjustable carbon fiber SUP paddles that are designed for all types of stand up paddle boarding. For families or if you plan to share your equipment, you cannot go wrong with an adjustable paddle. For the individual who plans to never share their equipment, then a fixed paddle will suit you well.
Sizing Your Paddle
Your paddle should be about 8” taller than your head.
Your paddle should be about 12” taller than your head.
If you choose to purchase a fixed shaft carbon fiber paddle, you will need to cut the shaft down to your desired height and glue the handle in place. This is much easier than you would expect and requires a hacksaw, alcohol and 5 minute epoxy. Cut the shaft to your desired length, clean the surface with alcohol and bond the handle to the shaft with epoxy. Once cured, head on out to the water for a paddle!
